46 Days
Ah, Lent. Here again. A time for reflection, giving to others, and giving up food.
Maybe it's a little selfish - (can it be selfish to give?) - but I use Lent. I use it to further my weight loss goal. I give up all carbonated beverages, which is not hard at all, and fast food (excluding Subway). This is a task. We eat out WAY too much. It's easy to say "we're not eating fast food anymore," but then we get lazy and eat only for special occasions, or only on weekends, and eventually only days ending in y. With the added guilt of Lent and wanting to impress God, I am more resolute to stick with it.
I would also like to give up one day of TV, but I don't think Cory will allow that.

I did the vegetarian thing one lent, years ago, and it was MUCH EASIER than I thought it would be. It was actually a cakewalk. I did include fish in what I could eat though.
Jaime, I'm with Kristy...do your own lent.

I'm trying to do extra things this lent instead of giving things up. Our church here has encouraged us not to use Lent as an excuse for things that we need to do anyway (like diets or exercise - both of which I should be doing anyway!). Although, you're right Jaime - it's much easier to stay on track when you're using the guilt of Lent! So instead, I'm trying to go to weekday mass once a week during Lent. This will be quite the task since our church only has weekday mass at 7:15 am! Much too early for my normal routine!!
Or you could try to turn your gardening into reflection/prayer time, or say the rosary while you exercise like Banny used to do :)

As far as giving up TV, I wanted both of us to do it in order to spend more time together and to stop having that excuse to be lazy. I recommended Mondays when he has school until 7pm and no sports are on TV (and he has TiVo anyway to tape what he would miss.)When I don't want to watch what he's watching, I normally go read in bed. On the weekends, I will have the opportunity to work on the yard though. I think we came to an understanding today about the TV time. It should work out okay.
