All work and no work

So... Cory still hasn't found a "career" job yet... and not for lack of trying as far as I can tell. His current job is temporary, but we don't know for how long.

He looks up careerbuilders and monster.com every day and applies to every job he may be qualified for. He has only had two calls for interviews since the beginning of May and they were both for pretty sketchy, shady jobs. He has applied to businesses in town who have advertised needing managers without getting any call backs. His cousin in pharmaceutical sales is on the lookout for him as are the two ladies he works for currently and his parrain. Now he is looking into going off shore which neither of us is very happy about.

I know you have to pay your dues, but we are not willing to move because of the Chesney situation. We are not willing to take an hourly job because we need benefits (specifically insurance for those of you who know my current woes.) And we are not willing to wait for the dream job to drop out of the sky... or maybe that's only me!

But seriously. What's a guy got to do to get an interview? We can't even think about turning down jobs until he starts getting calls. Anyway... I just wanted to let off some steam. Just pray for us.

Thanks.

Logo Crazy

Ashlee showed me this neat little game. A letter from a well-known (most of the time) advertising name is shown and you have to name that company. Let me know how you do. I got 15 on my own. No cheating!

New houses

I know this is not Kristy's blog, but I found a really cute picture of the house she and Wayne are buying and I wanted to post it. Isn't it nice? Just the kind of home we'd want... nothing to fix.
Cory and I are NOT fix-er-upper kind of people. I know that every house has repairs no matter how old it is, but we are just not handy. Luckily, we have people like our dads who are!

We also saw Kim and Nick's house on Sunday. They are fix-er-upper people! They have done an amazing job with their home in just 8 days. Repainted all the walls, ripped out all the carpeting, changed the fans, cleaned and repainted all the vents, and much more that wasn't immediately visible. They have a large backyard with a very large above ground pool and have plans for building a shed and possibly a pool house I think...

Congrats to all of you and your new houses!

New Orleans Weekend

This past weekend, Cory took me to New Orleans to celebrate our 1st anniversary together. (It'll be a year this coming Saturday.) It was wonderful and relaxing. As I'm sure you all realize, I am a make-a-plan-and-stick-to-it kind of girl. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I have ever been out of town without any plans. It was great! Not to knock the planning, but taking time to do nothing is great, too!

We met up with Kristy Friday night at Semolina's where we had wonderful food and a huge dessert. Kristy visited with us the entire time and her pregnant belly really looks SO cute right now!

We stayed at the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter. Saturday, we woke up with the sun and walked out to Jackson Square to admire the paintings and to eat beignets. We then strolled through the French Market and through a few shops nearby.

My favorite was Santa's Corner... a shop filled with Christmas ornaments and decorated trees and garlands. We walked through the entire shop admiring everything Christmas. Then we went back a second time. (I love Christmas!) We even saw an upside down tree which I had never heard of before. The big branches are at the top and the tree gets skinnier on the way down. And all of the ornaments hang down and out of the tree instead of into it. Very whimsical looking. We passed on the tree, but bought some ornaments.

Later, we almost made our first purchase on an art piece, but $300 was just a little too steep. We headed for the trolley and went down to Harrah's Casino to play $30 (we came out ahead $9.75) and to the Riverwalk mall. There, we bought the baby a Drew Brees jersey. Ah! Life is complete! We headed back to the hotel for a nap before dinner at the Red Fish Grill and Cory's first walk down Bourbon Street at night. It was pretty uneventful as we were walking at 8:30 and the weirdos and flashers weren't out yet, although I got hit on by a drunk boy trying to get me into a dance club. Cory had his first hand grenade (the most potent drink in New Orleans) and finished half of it before getting horrible acid reflux. So we shuffled back to the hotel and called it a night.

Sunday, we got up late and checked out of the hotel before heading out to the Lakeshore Mall and the Esplanade Mall. We bought a few Disney items and some maternity shirts for me and headed home.

It was a very nice getaway and I would really like to do it more often!
