World of Make Believe

Michelle and I had some great times together. We used our imaginations and played make believe every weekend.

After playing with our Barbies (who always had interesting stories) we would put them away by pretending a tornado/hurricane/flash flood was coming. It always made cleaning up more fun.

We played school and baby sitter and doctor and dress-up and library and even lawyer. We used Michelle's dad's office as our lawyer's office. We each had a type writer and a phone to take notes and calls. Each book was a case file and we'd climb the ladder looking for Mr. Dickens' case (A Tale of Two Cities).

We played police on her tricycle and roller skates. We played detective at her house. We made gross food concoctions at mine. We constructed new inventions out of typing paper, scissors, and tape. We had scavenger hunts, fashion shows, dance recitals, and puppet shows. (Sometimes even with printed programs.)

We spent hours singing New Kids on the Block, Grease, and Pippi Longstocking in the back of her dad's truck.

I believe that that time spent imagining with Michelle was extremely valuable time. Not only sealing our friendship, but broading my mind as well. I know that physical activity is important, but I hope that my children will get as much mentally out of playtime as I did growing up.

What were your favorite things to do growing up?

Thank You

A big thank you is in order for all the prayers for Jud and Katie. Thank you.

The Grand Jury session lasted for TWO days and it was only one of two cases heard. There was an indictment (which was pretty much expected), but the Grand Jury decreased the charge which is fantasic and rarely happens. Believe me, I know from being on the Grand Jury last term. I think that things almost couldn't have gone better. Jud and their lawyer are very upbeat. Katie is understandably upset, but she's making it. The media was much less cruel this time around as well, which has got to be a relief for their family.

They go to see their lawyer on Monday to talk over the possible senarios so keep them in your prayers still. There is no set court date yet.

Discrimination

I think I've discovered a new branch of discrimination. I've heard of two examples in the past two days. It's called educationism. The discrimination against educated people.

Ashlee, a girl I work with, deals with the company's scanning problems. If anyone has a problem using their scanner or with software problems dealing with the scanner, she tries to fix it. Recently, she has had a handful of people telling her that they can't open a folder. Once she's looked into the problem, she discovers that is it a FILE, not a folder that won't open. It is much more common for the file to not open, than a folder. When she tries to explain that a folder on the PC is just like a manilia folder which holds the files, they blow it off and tell her that they don't really need to know all of that - just if the problem is fixed. Yesterday, she asked someone to click a radio button and they couldn't figure out what she was talking about. She explained that it was the gray circle next to the phrase on their screen that when clicked, showed a black dot inside. They just wanted her to call it "that gray circle," not radio button. After getting off of the phone, she asked me if she should be "dumbing" herself down. I told her absolutely not; people should learn up, not dumb down. There is a difference in trying to show off your intelligence and calling things by their given names. Those people have educationism.

Cory has a friend named Christina who has a seven year old playing baseball. She is on the SATS (Scott Area Team Sports) board. He heard that other board members do not like her and may be trying to get her off of the board. Why? Because they don't understand the big words she uses. Isn't that ridiculous!?! I understand that not all people on are the same education level, but ask if you don't understand something, ask; learn! Don't be an educationist!

Good and Bad Things

Bad Things
1. Katie's case is going to Grand Jury on Wednesday. I am next to positive that she will be indicted. I only hope that she doesn't get too down about it. The trial could definitely swing her way.
2. I'm at work when I want to be at home sleeping. This is bigger than it sounds.

Good Things
1. We spent a wonderful Easter with Cory's and my family. Talking with Kim and Nick was especially nice. I really miss seeing them often.
2. We planned our Disney trip and will be paying $700 less than we originally planned!
3. We have a fetus... no more embryo. The baby should be about 1 inch now. My next appointment is in a week and a half.
4. Cory is getting to go to a Kenny Chesney concert FOR FREE! Thanks Mark!
5. We've been spending a lot of time with Jud, Katie, and Haden.
6. Jeff & Tracie's wedding and Cory's graduation countdown is about 33 days.
7. OKC trip in 40 days!

Our little Grasshopper

No, not our baby. It's Chesney! Just thought I'd share these pictures with you of Chesney is her very first dance costume. She is a grasshopper dancing to the song "Biting Bugs." No, I have not ever heard the song before. Anyway, she just had her pictures taken and her dance revue is at the end of June. We are all very excited to see the dance. When we ask her to show us her dance now, she wiggles a lot. It should be really cute!
